There are a lot of people out there who rather like
sausages (and have a soft spot for pigs) and who can blame them?!
The Meat and Livestock Commission has
uncovered some fascinating facts about sausages.....for example, did you
know....
- There are over 300,000 pages on the
internet about sausages
- In the UK we spend over £600 million a year
on sausages
- Celebrity sausage fans include Prince
Charles, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine (not a lot of people know that!), Roger
Moore and apparently even Elvis was a huge fan of sausage rolls
- The World's Longest Sausage was made in
October 2000 and was 35 miles long, weighing 15.5 tonnes!
- Sausages started to be called "bangers"
during the second world war because when they were fried they had a tendency to
explode
- Henry V said, "War without fire is as
worthless as sausages without mustard" (but of course he had not tasted our
special onion relish at the time)
