All the sausages and bacon used are sourced from a family run business in Gloucestershire.  This company, run by three generations of the same family, use only free-range and organic pork sourced from small family run farms within 15 miles of their premises.  All of our pork comes from just two of these nearby farms. Dad is a master butcher and they have won various awards including a joint Daily Mail/Soil Association award.  They are also Royal Warrant holders, Master butchers to HRH The Prince of Wales.

The bread is handmade specifically for the Honest Sausage by an independent organic baker who moved to London in 1993, after 9 years in Wales.  All his products meet the Soil Association criteria, and where possible the Demeter standard.  Ingredients are sourced from the most environmentally conscientious suppliers they can find.  What makes Celtic bread so different from the industry norm is they:

  • Minimise yeast content
  • Have longer fermentation
  • Are baked longer, giving a fully baked product
  • Are bottom baked in the oven, directly on the stones

All bread is made using mainly English wheat to reduce food miles and support UK farmers and millers.

Union Coffee’s Natural Spirit blend is an organic, ethically traded coffee.  This coffee is hand roasted, and being ethically traded means it comes from farms using sustainable farming methods. Workers on the farm have good and improving conditions. Teas are from Clipper, a family business that is now the market leader in organic teas.  They currently hold 11 Organic food awards, 8 Great Taste awards, and the first ever Soil Association ‘Consumer Education’ Award.  They were the first company in the world to be awarded the Fairtrade© mark.  At the Honest Sausage we use a Fairtrade© tea, organic Earl Grey tea, medal winner at the 2002 Great Taste Awards, and organic camomile.

Owlett apple juice is a farm pressed apple juice from the Weald of Kent.  This farm, started in 1990 grows cherries, apples and pears.     The apples for the juice, a mixture of Cox and Bramley apples, are grown either on the farm, or from a local cooperative of growers.

Owlett apple juice has won 7 awards in the last  8 years in the British Apple Juice competition at the National Fruit Show. In 2003 it won the Gold Great Taste Award from the Guild of Fine Food Retailers.

Organic Orange Juice is also available - each kilo has the juice from 2.5 kg of  organic oranges.
